[ Deadlines and Requirements ]

The Winter Simulation Conference (WSC) is the premier international forum for disseminating recent advances in the field of system simulation. In addition to a technical program of unsurpassed scope and quality, WSC provides the central meeting place for simulation practitioners, researchers, and vendors working in all disciplines and in the industrial, governmental, military, and academic sectors.

LOCATION: WSC '07 will be held in the American center of democracy, Washington D.C. in one of the most recognizable landmarks at the prestigious Pennsylvania Avenue JW Marriott hotel from December 9-12, 2007. This hotel provides easy access to the DC area's renowned monuments, museums and cultural venues. This premier hotel is near the White House, National theatre, Convention Center, and the National Portrait Gallery. It's outstanding location is one block from Washington's Metro system, and just 15 minutes from Reagan National Airport, which adds to the ease of travel throughout the Washington DC area. With 738 luxurious rooms which include High Speed Internet access, and 32 inch HD TVs with connections for your MP3 player and video camera, this beautiful and contemporary Washington, DC hotel is the most sought-after downtown hotel in the Nation's Capital. WSC '07 provides an opportunity to visit and view the Smithsonian, the Pentagon, the monuments on the Mall, numerous museums, and even the cathedral-like Metro stations.

KEYNOTE SPEAKER: Our keynote speaker will be Larry Burns, Vice President of General Motors Research & Development and Strategic Planning. Larry oversees GM's advanced technology, innovation programs, and corporate strategy and is member of GM's Automotive Strategy Board and Automotive Product Board. He is championing GM's "reinvention" of the automobile around advanced propulsion, electronics, telematics, and materials technologies. He is a member of many boards (USCAR Operating Council, FreedomCAR Partnership, Berkeley's Institute for Transportation Studies, Midwest Research Institute, several University of Michigan boards); INFORMS Edelman Prize winner; National Advisory Group, National Technical Institute for the Deaf; National Campaign for Hearing Health Leadership Award, Deafness Research Foundation; and a past National Honorary Chairman, MATHCOUNTS Foundation.

Our Military Keynote Speaker will be John Deal. John Deal is Director for C4ISR Systems Engineering and CTO, Communications & Information Systems at BAE Systems. BAE Systems is an international company engaged in the development, delivery and support of advanced defense and aerospace systems.

PROGRAM: WSC '07 marks the 40th anniversary of the Winter Simulation Conference. It features a comprehensive program ranging from introductory tutorials to state-of-the-art research and practice. The conference includes student presentations, exhibits, training sessions by software vendors, business meetings for professional societies and software user groups, and a general reception. It will also feature the newly designed "Clinic Sessions" in which a simulation practitioner presents a modeling or analysis problem that arose in a recent project. A panel of 2 or 3 simulation experts comment and provides guidance. The practitioner responds, after which the session is opened to the audience for Q&A and comments. Also added are the 40th Anniversary Landmark Paper Sessions which include talks on the most influential papers from the first 40 years of the Conference. Yet another addition to WSC'07 will have leading researchers from fields outside simulation to share concepts and developments that can benefit simulation in a new "Cross-Fertilization Track".
Contributions to the technical program are solicited in the following general areas, although papers in all areas of discrete-event and combined discrete-event/continuous simulation will be considered.

  • Advanced Tutorials
  • Analysis Methodology
  • Business Process Modeling
  • Case Studies
  • Clinics
  • Computational Systems Biology Modeling
  • Construction and Project Management
  • Cross-Fertilization
  • Education
  • Emergency Response/Homeland Security
  • Emergent Behavior
  • General Applications
  • Health Care
  • Introductory Tutorials
  • Manufacturing Applications
  • Military Applications
  • Modeling Methodology
  • Public Systems Applications
  • Risk Analysis
  • Semiconductor Manufacturing (special emphasis: operational policies and system configurations)
  • Simulation-based Scheduling (special emphasis: user friendly systems)
  • Simulation Interoperability
  • Software/Modelware Tutorials
  • Telecommunication Applications
  • Transportation and Supply Chain Applications

PAPER DEADLINES AND REQUIREMENTS: All contributed paper submissions will be peer reviewed. Accepted papers will be published in the CD-ROM versions of the conference proceedings, which will be copyrighted and widely disseminated. A paper must accompany all presentations and tutorials except those in the Vendor/Exhibitor track, the Simulation Case Studies track, the Poster Session, and the Ph.D. Colloquium. Instructions, information, and submission forms and procedures will be posted on this website as they become available. Please note the following important deadlines:

April 2, 2007: Electronically submit contributed papers not previously published or presented. Each submission must be a 3- to 9-page paper, including an abstract of not more than 150 words. Panel papers and papers in the tutorials tracks may be up to 12 pages. Submission implies that an author will attend WSC '07 to present the paper, and all clearance required for publication of the paper will be obtained by July 15, 2007. Use of one of the following formats is required: Microsoft Word or LaTeX. Submissions must be made through this website using the the Author Kit.

June 4, 2007: Contributors will be notified whether or not their paper has been accepted.

July 15, 2007: Authors electronically provide a final manuscript meeting all requirements to the Proceedings Editor.

September 14, 2007: Deadline to electronically submit abstracts for presentations in the Simulation Case Studies track (the submission form will be available August 1), as well as electronic submission of abstracts for presentations in the Poster Session and Ph.D. Student Colloquium. Simulation Case Studies require involvement from an industrial sponsor.

Ph.D. Student Colloquium: The INFORMS Simulation Society invites Ph.D. students to present short research summaries on Sunday afternoon, December 9, 2007. Colloquium presenters also participate in the Poster Session. Nominations for the Ph.D. Colloquium will be solicited in Fall 2007. In addition to the traditional presentations and Poster Session, students will have the opportunity to have their papers considered for the I-Sim/ACM-SIGSIM Best Student Paper Awards. Finalists will be judged on the Colloquium presentations as well as their papers, which must be accepted through the regular WSC submission process, with submission deadline April 2. There will be two winners: best computer science-focused paper, and best OR/MS paper.
